COMMUNITY WIFI IN INDIA, Opportunities and Challenges

A Workshop by GaiaNet at Main Conference

Abstract

Deregulation of telecom of recent years allows entrepreneurs and communities to set up their own wifi networks in India. This workshop gathers knowledge about community wifi in India, and identifies some of the challenges that entrepreneurs and community leaders face. Participants are invited to share their experiences and knowledge (if any) and to become part of a community wifi taskforce for knowledge sharing in India and beyond. (In collaboration with GAIA and IETF)

Speakers Invited: Add your Bio here PDM (Paola Di Maio), workshop proponent, is a Socio Technical Systems Engineer and Digital Nomad who loves Asia, the Internet and all knowledge. She studied and worked as information systems engineer internationally, worked as lecturer for some years in the UK and worldwide holds a Phd in System Knowledge, speaks four languages. Recently she was visiting faculty at a new IIT in Himachal Pradesh, teaching information systems,after which she decided to stay in the region, because its very beautiful and peaceful. She carries out research in informatics, works as a social entrepreneur on various ICT and community empowerment projects, she also freelances for a consulting firms in the USA and EU and travels regularly worldwide.
