Intro to PHP basics
A Workshop by James Walker, plus anyone else who knows PHP, at Unconference
Abstract
Learn the basics of PHP programming.
Main Description
This is an introduction to the basics of PHP programming for Web pages, by someone who writes and maintains real code on live websites.
Whether you are a Web user or a Web developer, it can be helpful to have an idea how things work.
PHP is a “server-side programming language”. That is, it runs on a computer where a web server is installed. So we will follow the tutorial at W3Schools.com which requires nothing installed on our computer, and no signup.
Coding is *not* “easy”. It is not “fun” – except for a very different idea of “fun”. (I love it and have a lot of fun, myself.) This is a chance to find out if you might actually like it before you commit yourself to an expensive education … and a living hell in some job. :D
