View from the bottom

Abstract
Many technologies (and other things) are “wonderful for people whose role in life is to be on top of things. … my role is to be on the bottom of things.” These are some ideas and views from where i work and live – deep in the bowels of website (not app) development.
They don't mean that i think other people should do the same way i do; just sharing another way of looking at things that may be useful.
(Quote is Donald Knuth, who is so far above me that my “bottom of things” is miles below his basement!)
