Cultural Expression through Art and Technology

A Workshop by Kritika Kushwaha, Himanshu Bablani at School Program

Abstract

This workshop will focus on teaching the children how to use technology to understand and express their culture - music, folklore, art, environment- in new and innovative ways through technology.

Main Description

The documentation of the rich cultural expression of a region is often found in its songs, folklore and art, while every person’s understanding, and subsequent expression of the culture perpetuates it. However, they usually stay confined to archaic mediums, limiting the dissemination of these rich experiences. This workshop aims to integrate Tibetan culture as seen through the eyes of the children and their personal expression along with technology to create a (portable!) interactive cultural experience.

Process:

A. Overview on the role of technology in culture B. Presentation on examples of cultural representations through technology around the world C. Group Activity: Creating your own cultural expression using art and technology

C1 Introduction to the Bare Conductive Touchboard and its possibilities C2 Understanding the concept of capacitance and conductivity C3 Creating the final installation using these components and principles
