Smart Sprinkler

A Workshop by Rafi Mohammed, at Main Conference

Abstract

A demo of smart sprinkler that does the following: Use the weather API to determine the chances of rain Use the moisture sensor to determine the moisture level of the soil Use the crop type and determine how much water has to be fed

And it has a machine learning ability to keep correcting the amount of water supplied.

Main Description

I along with some friends are in the process of building a prototype for smart sprinker. We started with this idea in one of the hackathon we participated in Bangalore last year. We want to take this product idea to next level and have started working to build a fully functional prototype to demonstrate how this will work.

The product prototype is currently build using a Raspberry Pi and the wiring is using the bread-board. We are currently in the process of building a fully functional prototype that can be test in the large farm.

So we have written the complete code for the product using Java + Phython that runs on Raspberry Pi and it uses a SQLite DB for storing the data from sensor. The plan is to move the data into Big Data analytic setup so that the data from the farm can be used to build the standard for agriculture which is currently in the minds of our experienced farmers and agriculturist.
